Supporting People is a Government scheme that started in April 2003. It aims to support people in their own homes so that they can lead more independent lives. Surrey has a Supporting People team who pay providers for the support services that they offer. The team also monitors services provided.
The Supporting People Team is employed by Surrey County Council but carries out its responsibilities on behalf of the SP Commissioning Body, which represents all the statutory partners in Surrey: the 11 boroughs and districts; Surrey Primary Care Trust and Surrey Probation Area, as well as the County Council.
